A guide to decorative mosaic tiles

Compare pattern, natural stone and finish to find a mosaic that suits your space. Start with the complete repeat, then check the product specification and sample options.

Flower and fan mosaic tiles

Choose petal-shaped flower mosaics for a rounded repeat, or fan and scallop mosaics for sweeping curves. Pale Carrara marble, grey accents and cream-and-green limestone combinations create different levels of contrast.

Explore flower marble mosaics, then compare the fan designs in this collection.

Geometric, Starline and triangle mosaics

Starline designs combine stars, linking pieces and larger shapes into a geometric repeat. Split and framed hexagon mosaics add contrasting stone sections or borders. Shellstone triangle mosaics add an angular repeat in brushed limestone. Compare complete sheets together to see the pattern across a larger area.

Basket weave and Casablanca designs

Basket weave mosaics create a woven effect through the arrangement of stone pieces and contrasting inserts. The Casablanca travertine design brings a softer, interlocking outline and warm natural tones. A quiet grout colour lets the stone lead; stronger contrast emphasises the repeat.

Explore basket weave mosaic tiles.

Decorative stone mosaics for splashbacks and feature walls

Use a decorative mosaic as a focused detail behind a basin, along a kitchen splashback or across an interior feature wall. Relate the pattern size to the visible area: sockets, mirrors and fittings can interrupt a large repeat. Plan sheet alignment, edge cuts and transitions before ordering.

Marble, limestone and travertine: colour and finish

Decorative marble mosaics offer natural veining and contrasting white, grey or dark accents. Limestone designs introduce softer cream, beige and green tones, while travertine brings warm earthy variation. Compare the exact honed, polished, brushed or tumbled finish on the product page. Colour and finish names alone do not confirm suitability for a floor or wet area.

Planning, installation and natural stone care

Check the stated sheet dimensions, thickness, coverage and sales unit for every selected product. Dry-lay several sheets to balance natural variation and align the repeat. Allow for cuts, pattern matching, wastage and spare material. Your installer should specify a suitable substrate, natural-stone adhesive, grout and sealing process for the exact location.

Clean with a pH-neutral product formulated for the stone. Avoid vinegar, acidic descalers and abrasive cleaners. Wipe spills promptly and follow the sealer manufacturer’s maintenance guidance. Bathroom floors, shower floors and exterior areas require their own suitability assessment.

Your questions, answered

What are decorative mosaic tiles?

Decorative mosaic tiles use repeating shapes, contrasting stones or an ornamental layout to create a pattern. This selection includes flower, fan, Starline, basket weave, triangle, framed and split hexagon, and Casablanca designs in natural stone. Check each product for its sheet dimensions and sales unit.

Which decorative mosaic pattern should I choose?

Compare the full pattern repeat, the size of the individual pieces and the contrast between stones. Flower and fan designs give a curved rhythm; Starline and split hexagons create stronger geometry; basket weave gives a woven effect. View several sheets together and compare grout colours before fixing.

Can decorative mosaics be used for a kitchen splashback?

Selected mosaics can be considered for kitchen splashbacks and interior feature walls. Confirm the exact product and fixing system for the location, especially near cooking appliances. Natural stone needs appropriate care; wipe splashes promptly and use a suitable stone cleaner.

Are these mosaic tiles suitable for bathroom or shower floors?

Wall, bathroom-floor and shower-floor suitability must be confirmed separately for the exact stone and finish. A honed or tumbled surface and extra grout lines are not a slip-resistance rating. Ask us and your installer to check slip requirements, substrate preparation and waterproofing before specifying a wet floor.

Do decorative marble and limestone mosaics need sealing?

Marble, limestone and travertine generally benefit from a compatible natural-stone sealer, with treatment chosen for the stone and intended use. Follow the installation and sealer manufacturers’ instructions, including any pre-grout sealing. Sealing reduces absorption but does not prevent acid etching or replace waterproofing.

Can I order samples before choosing a pattern?

Samples are available for selected designs. Check the sample option on each product page and our sample service information. A small sample helps with colour and finish but may not show the complete repeat or all the natural variation in a larger order.

Can you make a bespoke decorative mosaic design?

Yes. Our own factory can review a different stone combination, layout, size or finish for your project. Share a drawing or reference image, approximate quantity and dimensions. Feasibility, sampling, price and lead time are confirmed for each enquiry. Discuss a bespoke mosaic design.
