Should the panel joints line up vertically?

Plan a staggered arrangement where the panel system allows it. Dry-lay several rows so the stepped ends and changes in face depth read as one continuous feature.

Can I place lighting close to the split-face wall?

Grazing light emphasises the relief and shadows. Test the light position on a sample panel because a close fitting can make each projection much more pronounced.
